'Guess the FTSE' competition
As a bit of fun, we launched an ongoing competition last month entitled 'Guess the FTSE'. We asked the following question:
On Tuesday, 2nd May the FTSE 100 opened at 6069.9 but what will it close at on Tuesday, 31st May?
The answer was 5990.00, and the winner was David Griffiths, who wins a pair of Odeon cinema tickets. Congratulations to David and a big thank you to all those that entered.

The cost of a wedding
The money generated by the wedding industry in the UK is estimated to be around £7bn a year. This year could be a bumper one with the recent royal wedding boosting the market. The wedding of William and Kate cost a great deal more than most, at a figure estimated to be in the millions, although comparatively less than the cost of the wedding of Charles and Diana, estimated to be considerably more.

UK inflation is back on the rise
In the latest report on UK consumer prices published by the Office of National Statistics (ONS) on 17 May 2011, the official figures report the all items Consumer Price Index (CPI) at 4.5% for April, up from 4% in March. This previous figure had surprisingly come as a 0.4% drop from the February figure. This decrease has now been wiped out and the overall trend for 2011 continues to be upward.

Can you 'trust' your life assurance policy?
According to some estimates, as few as 6% of life assurance policies in the UK are currently written in the form of a trust, although doing this can be advantageous.
